We have always been passionate about kayaks and paddling. Is there anything more satisfying than finishing work, taking a boat to the water’s edge and floating along until the sunshine becomes dusk? Then putting a couple of mackerel on a barbeque and sharing a beer with your partner.
Or starting out with full hatches to spend a weekend on the water. To hear the splash and trickle of water and nothing more than the gulls for the whole day. Then pitching camp and talking the night away with a valued friend, before returning with the next day’s tide.
As a Naval electrician I was allowed to take my kayak onboard ship. Wherever we were I was encouraged to paddle. This took me to the Baltic, North Sea, England, Scotland, Atlantic coast of France, Spain and North Africa, Mediterranean, Adriatic, and Aegean.
I have continued to paddle around the English Channel off the coast of Dorset and Hampshire as I have raised my children. They too share the pleasure.
My passion for wooden kayaks came after I took a cabinet maker’s course. I made furniture, initially, but eventually combined interests and made wooden kayaks.
These have the advantage of being very stable, large enough for me to enjoy in comfort, and stunningly beautiful.
The excitement and satisfaction of the combination is one that I have to share.
